Summer Festival Essentials

The days are getting longer, the sun is shining a little more often and that can only mean one thing… Summer festivals! With only a few festivals going through back in 2021 due to health precautions, 2022 is set to be the summer of good music, wellies and (hopefully) sunshine.

Since we’ve had to take a few years off from festivals, it can leave you questioning what you need to take. This is where we come in: here is our handy guide with all of your festival essentials to remind you what to pack for a festival. And of course, we focused on sustainable packing, because a good time for you needs to be a good time for the planet too!

Bamboo Toothbrushes

If you have ever been to a festival, you know that in most, the washing facilities are not something for the fainthearted. However, no matter how bad it gets, you can always count on people needing to brush their teeth. When you can’t plug in your electric toothbrush, most people resort to a portable plastic toothbrush. However, this isn’t the most sustainable packing option, that's why we would suggest trialling out Bristle bamboo toothbrushes with BPA free nylon bristles and FSC certified and biodegradable bamboo handles.

Natural Refillable Deodorant

One of the key festival essentials this season is all about smell. While showers may be few and far between at festivals, you will still need a way to stay feeling fresh and hold the B.O smells at bay. This is where Proverb Refillable Deodorant comes in, using only natural, organic and vegan ingredients it’s designed to keep you smelling great all day long.

It’s the only natural deodorant on the market that offers 3 levels of strength, Active - for those that tend to sweat more and contain sodium bicarbonate, Core - for people who generally don’t tend to suffer from body odour and do not contain sodium bicarbonate, lastly, there’s Sensitive and Unfragranced - designed for super sensitive skins. The deodorant has been tested on lots of sweaty athletes from rugby players, Olympians, rowers and many more - all passing the sweat test!

Biodegradable Ponchos

If you’re planning on any festivals in the UK, this is one key festival packing item that is an absolute must when competing with the classic British weather: rainproof jackets. Ponchos are a great way to keep dry while being lightweight in your backpack, however, they are plastic and normally end up going straight in the bin (not a sustainable packing choice in the slightest).

We’ve found some pretty cool biodegradable ponchos - Peco Ponchos. Plastic disposable ponchos are often made of polyethene which is estimated to take hundreds of years to degrade and could end up in landfills or oceans polluting our planet. Instead, Peco uses biodegradable and compostable material which breaks down in the right environment in less than 24 months. The ink they use is biodegradable too.

Sustainable Backpack

It’s all well and good telling you what to pack for a festival, but where are you going to keep everything in? The Gouthwaite backpack is what you need to be looking at, crafted in the Yorkshire Dales to last a lifetime, the Gouthwaite’s dry-waxed canvas is weatherproof and hard-wearing - perfect for a summer festival with unpredictable weather. They use organic cotton which is greener than your average yarn, using 88% less water and no nasty chemicals. Plus the only plastic used in the entire pack is the recycled polyester thread.

Sanitiser

In the new world, sanitiser has become more and more necessary - especially when you’re at a festival and need to keep clean while sinks may be out of use. Proverb Refillable Hand Sanitiser is one of the summer festival essentials that answers all of your cleaning needs, in spray form - the sanitiser is brilliant at getting into hard to reach areas under rings.

Enriched with Wild Mint, Eucalyptus, Geranium and Lavender essential oils - not to mention 70% alcohol to hit all of the government guidelines. The spray sanitiser is available in easy to use 50ml bottles - perfect for throwing in a bag or rucksack, as well as 250ml and 1-litre refill bottles. It’s not just your hands you can use the sanitiser for too, surfaces, door handles and anything you can set your eyes on, can be sprayed as well.
