Natural & organic? Entirely natural with organic ingredients. Most brands would happily say 100%. Proverb means truth. All emulsions made in the UK have to have a preservative. We use the organic certification allowed preservative dehydroacetic acid. Although you are allowed to label it natural it isn’t truly. There is 0.6% in the bottle as legally required.
Our dedication to natural & organic Greenwashing brands pretending to be natural, is rife and only getting worse. We will only ever tell you the truth about our ingredients, the sources and which elements are natural, organic or the legal required preservatives. We formulate with painstaking dedication to this mantra for your health but also as it ensures the elite grown version of each ingredient.
Made in England? Yes, formulated and made in England where our headquarters are. Ingredients are sourced sustainably from around the world. Lifefuelled humans using the products globally.
In vitro & in vivo lab proven actives? Yes. We have selected natural deodorisers that have clinical data to back up their efficacy. We have selected many active ingredients with strong in vitro and in vivo testing results for the individual ingredients. Combining this with researching the source, origins and ethics of each ingredient.
‘Clean’ brands tend to be younger and newer to market and thus don’t usually invest the large amount of funds needed to clinically trial products to prove results in an independent lab. Not us; we are firmly committed to doing this as the clean, organic and natural sector has to prove it works. As we grow the brand, we will grow the investment into clinical testing as a priority but below are our test results so far!
Believe it or not you can do clinical deodorant trials, but we are not at the stage of being able to invest in these yet. They actually do it by sniffing armpits- what a job!
Proverb Consumer Trials: In our pre-launch testing we sent out over 500 products to more than 200 participants to get real life feedback on how the product was working. We were blown away by the results with a 97% satisfaction rating and 93% reporting that the product worked all day.
Dermatological testing This scrub along with all Proverb skincare has been successfully Dermatologically tested.
Lab-proven results We have not clinically trialled the scrub as a full formula as it is a wash-off product. Instead, we chose superfood-based ingredients with impressive nutritional profiles. This isn’t usually the case as most formulations leave out the good stuff in wash of products.
Omega 7 In the Scrub, we chose Seabuckthorn due to its nutritional profile, not to mention the serious shade of orange. Containing over 190 nutrients and phytonutrients including vitamin C at a 12 x higher level than an orange. Hence, it’s new place as a superfood. Rich in carotenoids, phenols and glucoside, vitamin A, C, E and beta-carotene. The seed oil part comprises of unsaturated essential fatty acids including Linoleic and Linolenic acids, while the pulp oil unsaturated essential fatty acids, carotenoids and vitamin E. Exfoliants shouldn’t just be about sloughing off dead skin you should be using your time scrubbing to replenish and feed your new skin cells too.
Superfood Avocado & Coconut Blended ground coconut shell to remove dead skin cells and invigorate your skin aiding skin cell regeneration. Alongside blitzed avocado stones, the powerhouse of this anti-oxidant-rich ingredient and a super use of something normally just thrown in the bin. Wake up your face.
Inca Inchi Oil With an Omega 3 content like no other and ARGAN OIL with its exceptional content of unsaturated fatty acids help restore the hydro-lipidic film of the skin, strengthening the barrier function of your fresh newly revealed skin cells.
With the Scrub, your skin should feel immediately invigorated and energised. It should look and feel smoother.
We would expect within the first few weeks that your skin will look brighter, with a more even skin tone.
If you are combining the scrub with Proverb serums and moisturisers it will help their penetration into newer skin cells, so overall, you should see an improvement in your skin condition.
Remember as your skin cycle is approximately 28 days when you change to any new skincare you should commit to 4 weeks to ensure your skin likes it.
The deodorant should glide on well. If you feel your armpits once it has dried there is a thin light powder coating, not something you feel unless you touch it with your fingertips.
The Proverb scents are subtle and clearly natural, but they last all day. When you switch from mainstream to natural deodorant you can go through an ‘armpit adjustment phase’. Your body gets rid of the toxins built up in the skin plus your sweat glands have to adapt to not being blocked by ingredients like aluminium. You can feel like you sweat more and not smell great.
This does not happen to everyone. If it does it can take up to 14- 30 days for your body to regulate itself. Make sure you drink lots of water, wear natural fibres, wash your armpits every day and apply your deodorant more frequently. Be patient, don’t give up on the process. Your body is insanely clever and will find a natural balance.
THE CASE
You need only one of our solid, hardwearing deodorant cases that can be used over and over again. They are smooth to the touch, never dent and are happy rolling around in your gym and travel bag. They are suitable to put in the dishwasher and on average will save you adding 8-12 deodorant cases a year to plastic landfill.
The elephant in the room - but the case is plastic?? Sure is. We have made organic and natural skincare since 2007 and the right packaging choice for this is a huge part. We are well practised at it and have used many options in our ranges - glass, aluminium, PET plastics, and bioplastics. Clearly, we started this journey believing the case would never be plastic, we went straight to cardboard tubes. However, we are also academics and research everything to the hilt and if you are really willing to take the time and learn, then it is never that simple. All the marketing of “deodorant cases made entirely from plants” or aluminium being better for the world is frankly just that - marketing.
Kirstie explains this deodorant case transition through paper, aluminium, bioplastics, post-consumer plastic and how there are never black-and-white answers in the pursuit to stop excess packaging-only grey and an awful lot of marketing crap and consumer misperception. Read More.
THE REFILL
Paper: Your deodorant refill arrives in a beautiful very specialist paper wrap, that protects the deodorant but can also be put straight into the paper stream or compost.
Wheel-Loop Back: When you finish the refill there is a small PET plastic wheel on the base- it looks like a Trivia Pursuits cheese wheel! Please keep and collect these and we will send you a special bag to get them back to us, at no cost to you so we can loop them back into production. They are widely recycled if required.
The Scrub is a dark, dense gloopy texture that spreads when it hits the skin and water and disperses all the thousands of tiny but strong, firm grains. This is a firm physical facial scrub so you don’t need to apply much pressure when using it. You can also use it on the body.
Smells so good you want to eat it and you can technically! Citrus tones of bergamot, lemon peel and both sweet and bitter orange made more interesting with a unique blend of basil, thyme and mountain pepper so it is never too sweet.
With the deodorant, we get rave reviews about the aromas - you can smell our spa product and treatment background!
Wild Mint & Eucalyptus is blended with geranium and a dash of lavender. Invigorating, a ‘wake up and focus’ aroma and perfect for the morning or a hard day ahead.
Coconut & Tonka is a gentler smell. The coconut is not blended with sweet vanilla which is very typical in coconut fragrance. Instead, you have some coffee, apricot and apple. Combined with the darker oriental tonka smell, you get an interesting coconut combination.
Unfragranced does not smell, but if you have sensitive unhappy armpits, they will thank you for it!
The deodorant is smooth to apply. If you feel your armpits once it has dried there is a thin light powder coating, not something you feel unless you touch with your fingertips.
Lemongrass & Mrytle is zingy and citrus fresh, some say it smells like lemon sherbert and for others it is a lovely reminder of holidays in South East Asia. It is sure to brighten your day.
