F45 Fulham is a new concept training centre dedicated to the most innovative, challenging and systemised team training workout in the world. As part of the F45 training regime they offer a quarterly 8 week nutritional and training challenge. Week 1 of nutritional 'Spring Training' has been designed to alkalise and detox the body focusing on cleansing, eliminating possible irritants and stimulating specific functions. Nev explained to Team Proverb why this is so important, and what we can do to detox our bodies:
"The purpose behind detoxing and alkalising your body is to reduce acidity. This acidity is caused from lifestyle factors such as stress, lack of sleep as well as dietary factors including red meat, processed food and sugar. Our blood pH measures 7.365 which is slightly alkaline. The higher the number the more alkaline it is and the lower the number the more acidic it becomes. So our body will do whatever it needs to do to keep that pH number at 7.365. If levels drop below the ideal pH in the body it leaches your two alkalizing minerals - magnesium from your muscles and calcium from your bones - to buffer that acidity down and bring it back into equilibrium. The body is then depleted of its calcium and magnesium stores. So the goal of an alkaline diet rich in minerals and vitamins is to increase your energy levels, improve your sleeping patterns, reduce fluid retention, improve digestion and enhance your magnesium and calcium levels"
Thanks Nev, all clear. We then asked him how we should change our diet.
He recommended that we;
"Include the following Alkaline Foods: fresh fruit, vegetables, roots, nuts, and legumes are all good. Dates, figs, grapefruit, lemon, lime, fennel, broccoli, artichoke, asparagus, beetroot, kale, raw spinach, watercress and cauliflower are considered the most alkaline. Starting the day with a mug of lemon and hot water is a great way to kick off an alkaline diet.
Try to avoid the following: pasta, wheat, all dairy products, red meat, coffee, tea, sugar, fizzy drinks and alcohol are all out."
During this phase the body will be cleansed from a build up of toxins whilst enhancing liver function, promoting healthy bowel movements, stimulating metabolism, removing fluid retention and begin the process of eliminating sugar cravings through an alkalising diet which will:
- Reduce fluid retention
- Cleanse the blood and liver of toxins
- Remove fluid retention
- Improve energy levels
- Enhance sleeping patterns
