Pre-season is the time when aerobic base building is crucial for the challenges that lie ahead. High volumes, high numbers, covering a lot of distance. This all takes focus, determination and strength.
At Proverb we understand that strength isn't just about the physicality, we know that it's body, heart and mind. The mind in many ways being the most powerful of these.
The latest thinking coming out of the US is that mental toughness or 'grit' plays the most important part in achieving your goals.
Angela Duckworth, psychologist, states that success comes not from innate talent, but from true 'grit'; the determination and desire to achieve what you want to do.
"Grit is passion and perseverance for long term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week or the month, but for years, and working really hard to make that future a reality"
This is highly applicable in the pre-season stage of training.
She goes on to say;
"...there are no shortcuts to excellence. Grit is about working on something you care about so much that you're willing to stay loyal to it...it's doing what you love, but not just falling in love―staying in love.”
We love this approach, and it couldn't be more true in the Pre-season training stage. So whether you're using this time of year to set best practice in your training, personal or skincare regimes, stick with it, show us your grit.
