PROVERB FOUNDATION - CRISIS AT CHRISTMAS

Homelessness is something that I am sure we can all agree is not to be taken lightly and at a time when most of us are lucky enough to be planning to surround ourselves with loved ones it seems all the more relevant. For a number of reasons, it is also a cause that is very close to my heart and I am thankful every night when I lay my head on a soft pillow with a roof over my head.

I first encountered homelessness up close while completing my Master’s in Human Biology. Oxford has one of the largest homeless populations in the UK and as I set about helping a few of them understand more about the dangers of sharing needles and other drug paraphernalia I was able to spend real time with them and hear their stories.

What surprised me most was that in the majority of cases their fall into homelessness was rapid and largely out of their control and often from very middle class lives. It is said we are only 3 steps away from homelessness and I can well believe this from the many stories that I listened to. I was drawn in.

Lately my amazing parents have given up 3-4 days for the last 6 Christmases to volunteer at CRISIS for Christmas and have again learnt first hand how tough homelessness is and how hard it is to escape. If only for one week a year the incredible work that CRISIS does to bring a sense of belonging, a warm bed, new clothes and a sense of hope to so many of the homeless population across the UK is to be applauded and supported.

We certainly didn't need to be asked twice if we wanted to donate some of our skincare products to the cause as after all whatever your circumstances a warm shower, some nice smelling goodies, clean clothes and a hot meal can make you feel better.

So why not give a place at Crisis this Christmas for just £28.18 – it might just help someone leave homelessness behind for good by giving them..
