Refillable? Moisturiser - This product has a Proverb ‘reload’, part of our minimal waste skincare system. On order one, you get the outer box, glass bottle and pump. On all ongoing orders you do not get the box or pump. You reuse your pump from order one. The bottle will arrive with a small recyclable aluminium cap. Globally pumps and atomisers are very hard to recycle as they are mixed materials so we are on a mission to get rid of them. You only need one. Mud + Scrub - no, but we are working on it.

Natural & organic? Entirely natural with organic ingredients. Most brands would happily say 100%. Proverb means truth. All emulsions made in the UK have to have a preservative. We use the organic certification allowed preservative dehydroacetic acid. Although you are allowed to label it natural it isn’t true. There is 0.6% in the bottle as legally required.

In vitro & in vivo lab proven actives? Yes, we have selected many active ingredients with strong in vitro and in vivo testing results for the individual ingredients. Combining this with researching the source, origins and ethics of each ingredient.

‘Clean’ brands tend to be younger and newer to market and thus don’t usually invest the large amount of funds needed to clinically trial products to prove results in an independent lab. Not us; we are firmly committed to do this as the clean, organic and natural sector has to prove it works. As we grow the brand, we will grow the investment into clinical testing as a priority but below are our test results so far!

In a clinical trial the combined ingredient of acai, andiroba and copaiba balsam has shown a 65% reduction in oil production after 6 weeks and a 72% reduction in the number of blackheads after 8 weeks.

Cleanse & Shave Nutrient Mud

It has a unique texture – a bit like whipped mud, that glides on and makes your skin feel cool. Apply it neat and it feels like a creamy clay mask texture. However, as soon as you add water to your face it becomes an emulsified creamy face wash, allowing you to really massage the skin and boost blood and nutrients to the skin cells.

The combination of natural clays is crucial to the anti-redness and smooth, even skin colour, but they are white. All skins - but especially darker skins, need a clean face flannel or muslin cloth to remove it. This is a win, as the cloth will also provide a gentle exfoliation.

It’s the Proverb aroma people report they love the most, it smells clean and calming. Citrus and a woody tone behind this.
